1099 preparation & filing

1099 preparation and filing for small businesses

Paying subcontractors and vendors means 1099s every January. We collect W-9s all year, confirm who needs a form, prepare 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms and make sure they're filed and sent on time.

W-9s collected before you need them

The hardest part of 1099 season is chasing missing tax IDs in January. We track your vendors throughout the year, request W-9s as new vendors are paid and flag missing information early.

Who needs a 1099

Not every vendor gets a 1099. Corporations, card payments and payments below the IRS threshold are generally excluded, and for payments made in 2026, the threshold for Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC is higher than in past years. We review your vendor payments and confirm who needs a form. Our Year-End & 1099 page covers this year's changes.

Prepared, filed and delivered

We prepare your 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms from reconciled books, so the amounts match your records. The IRS's older FIRE system closes for new filings on November 19, 2026, and tax-year 2026 forms go through IRIS. We make sure your forms are filed on time and copies reach your recipients by the deadline.

Fixing past years

Missed 1099s in a prior year, or sent them with errors? We help you file late or corrected forms and set up a process so it doesn't happen again.

FAQ

Common questions

When are 1099s due?

Form 1099-NEC is generally due to both recipients and the IRS by January 31. Other 1099 forms have different deadlines. We keep a calendar so nothing is late.

What's the 1099 threshold for 2026?

For payments made in 2026, the threshold for Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC was raised. See our Year-End & 1099 page for details, and we'll confirm which of your vendors need a form.

Do I need a 1099 for payments made by credit card?

Generally no. Card and payment app payments are reported by the payment processor, not by you. We'll sort your vendor payments accordingly.

Can you help me decide if a worker should be W-2?

Yes. We review how the relationship works and, if it's time to move workers to payroll, help you do it cleanly.
